Venom ER follows the real stories of the doctors at the hospital of Loma Linda, California dealing with bites of poisonous animals, mainly snakes. Every year, thousands of people are bitten by poisonous snakes around the world. Depending of the snake, the doctors have to take several measures to control the venom's effect. The rattlesnakes are the most common poisonous snakes in the US. They live in every single state. Loma Linda's hospital deals with most cases in the cities near it. Why? Because in this hospital works Dr. Sean Bush, one of the most important and recognized toxicologists in the world. The doctors have to deal with the bites of six different sorts of snakes: the Mojave Rattlesnake, the Sidewinder Rattlesnake, the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, the Red Diamond Rattlesnake, the Speckled Rattlesnake and the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake, being the last one the most common. But snakes' venom isn't the only thing which doctors have to deal with. They also have to help patients bitten by the scorpions and spiders, which include the black widow and the black recluse spider

After having conquered cable television as the world's most hyperactive, animated animal wrangler, Steve Irwin--aka THE CROCODILE HUNTER--takes his hilarious schtick to the big screen. With the help of wife Terri and dog Sue, Irwin embarks on another series of dangerous missions--rescuing snakes, spiders, and baby kangaroos from their current locations and transferring them to safer spots in the Australian Outback. Since this is a feature film, director John Stainton and screenwriter Holly Goldberg Sloan concoct a fictional story to give Irwin's adventure an added kick in the tail. Their concept, a sufficiently outlandish one concerning a shotgun-wielding cattle rancher (Magda Szubanski), CIA operatives, and a missing U.S. government satellite, does the trick quite nicely. The point of this picture, and in fact, the point of anything Steve Irwin-related, is Steve Irwin himself. And with COLLISION COURSE, Irwin proves that his cartoon-like presence is a supremely engaging one, no matter the venue. But Irwin is neither a sensationalist or an exhibitionist. He's a lover of animals as well as nature, and it is this childlike fascination with the earth's deadliest creatures that makes him such a wonder to behold. Crikey!

IMAX - Australia, Land before Time

Extraordinary panoramic vistas, taken from a 2-engine plane with a camera attached to its nose, amazing geological facts, and marvelous animals, most of them unique to Australia, are what we get in this superb documentary of what is both the world's smallest continent, and its largest island. Once joined to Antarctica many millions of years ago, with high mountains and lush forests, time transformed Australia into 3 million square miles of mostly arid flat land, and its creatures adapted to the different weather conditions. Fabulous and often amusing footage of kangaroos and koalas (both share the same ancestral marsupial possum), as well as desert creatures from ants to the giant and fearsome parenti lizard, and the "living contradiction," the platypus, are among the many delights shown in this film.

An event that only occurs approximately twice every century, torrential rains filling the Outback's Lake Eyre, bringing long dormant animals to life, as well as flocks of pelicans, is caught on film, and is a spectacular sight. This is a glorious but harsh land, with a strange beauty that fills the soul. Australia is described as being more like another planet than another country, and this documentary has many images rarely seen.

Directed by David Flatman, written by Flatman, Meg Morrison, and poet Les Murray, it is narrated by Alex Scott, and has a lovely score by David Bridie. Made for IMAX in 2002, every aspect of "Australia, Land Beyond Time" is excellent, is a must for anyone interested in this great country, and those of us who like to explore foreign lands without leaving home.

IMAX - Bears

"Bears" takes the viewer into the wilds of many areas of the world to get up-close views of these majestic animals. Like most IMAX films, there is a (fairly seamless) mix of both wild and captive animals; the captive animals are used to get shots that would simply be impossible or unsafe to obtain using wild animals in their habitats. The "making of" featurette very clearly explains this process, and it works well in most IMAX films. There were a few times when it was apparent that the black bears being used were "performing," but it was not a huge distraction from the film.

The movie is filmed in beautiful locations, really showcasing the bears' adaptation to their environments, and making crystal clear what an important part they are of the natural world. The viewer is educated on bear behavior, bear/human interaction, habitat conservation, bear awareness and safety precautions, and many other issues, all the while treating our eyes to spectacular views captured with the IMAX camera, which is unparalleled.

Coral Reef Adventure follows the real-life expedition of ocean explorers and underwater filmmakers Howard and Michele Hall. The Halls guide us to the islands and sun-drenched waters of the South Pacific to document, in the biggest and best film format that exists, the health and beauty of coral reefs. On the giant screen, you?ll feel like you?re diving and exploring right alongside them.

Howard and Michele have been diving coral reefs for almost three decades, but in recent years, they have observed with concern the decline of their favorite reefs. Stirred to action, Howard and Michele set out for the South Pacific. They hope the images they bring back will raise awareness about the plight of coral reefs, and the health of the global oceans.

From the dazzling underwater seascapes of Australia's Great Barrier Reef to the mysterious deep ocean corals of Fiji, and from the azure skies above Tahiti to shark-filled canyons off isolated Rangiroa, the Halls visit many reefs that are flourishing and capture on film many interesting reef inhabitants. You?ll laugh at the little shrimp that wants to climb in your mouth to get its own bite to eat! You?ll see how reef animals rely on each other in surprising ways. You?ll dive down to the mysterious deep reefs of The Twilight Zone, a place no one else has ever been. You?ll swim with hundreds of grey reef sharks, then zoom through coral canyons, riding a fast current beneath the waves. But sadly, you?ll also swim through vast stretches of bleached coral boneyards, and learn with the Halls how our actions may cause these devastating results.

Along their journey the Halls meet scientists and conservationists working to understand and save the reefs. In Fiji, Rusi Vulakoro guides Howard and Michele to the beautifully pristine and mysteriously damaged reefs of his country. They also dive with world-renowned ocean advocate Jean-Michel Cousteau who feels at home in the world beneath the waves. Howard and his team then dive to a dangerous 350 feet in search of deep ocean corals. For this most risky part of the trip, Howard is joined by Richard Pyle, a deep-sea ichthyologist (a self-described ?fish nerd.?) Pyle knows that thousands of reef species are still unknown to science. Seeking them out is an urgent conservation priority, but it means diving to a realm seldom visited: The Twilight Zone, never before filmed in 15/70 large format .

In Tahiti, the Halls join a local chapter of Reef Check, an international organization of divers who help study local coral resources. Finally, in Rangiroa Howard searches for the huge schools of sharks known to live there. These sharks are one of the top predators, and if they still swim the waters of Rangiroa, that?s a good sign for the health of the whole ecosystem. They don?t find just a few, they find 300, all at once: a happy, but slightly unnerving end to their journey!

Discovery Channel visited global warming tipping points across the planet, talked to the world's leading experts, and examined the latest evidence about global warming for Global Warming: What You Need To Know. Produced by Discovery Channel, the BBC and NBC News Productions, and hosted by award-winning journalist Tom Brokaw, the two-hour special presented the facts and encouraged viewers to determine their own opinion about global warming.
The two-hour special decoded the buzzwords and armed viewers with an arsenal of clear definitions and visual depictions to explain the greenhouse effect, carbon dioxide emissions, CFCs, effects on weather and rising sea levels. CGI and cutting-edge climate computer models helped viewers see into the future at a world significantly changed by unchecked global warming.
Global Warming: What You Need To Know took viewers to global warming hot spots where the planet is most affected by climate change - into rushing subterranean rivers deep in Patagonian glaciers, into the drought-stricken Amazon, on coral reefs ravaged by rising ocean temperatures, into a massive Chinese coal mine, and many more.
The international team of experts, including NASA's top climate scientist Dr. James Hansen, and Princeton University professors Michael Oppenheimer and Stephen Pacala, discussed the current realities of global warming and predicted the future of the planet. Many of the experts addressed natural warming and cooling cycles going back 600,000 years, and discussed if the present warming trend is unnatural.
Global Warming: What You Need To Know demonstrated how much carbon dioxide the average American family produces and presented a graphical timeline of global warming throughout history. Scorpions belong to the oldest land-based arachnides. Over 1800 different species are known to exist. Usually, they do not surpass the size of 10cm in length, but exceptions are know, such as the Emperor Scorpion (Pandinus imperator) which can grow up to become over 20cm in size. Eye Of The Leopard, is a documentary film for the National Geographic Channel that shows the journey, life, and growth of a young leopard cub named Legadema.
“It was as if nature had turned on its head completely,” says Dereck Joubert, a filmmaker who followed Legadema for three-and-a-half years in her natural habitat, the Okavango Delta of Botswana - the verdant flood plains known as Africa’s Garden of Eden.
“She had killed the mother primate, but then found this live new-born on the ground. The little baboon called out, and we thought we were going to hear a major crunch and the leopard smacking its lips, but instead the baby baboon put its paws out and walked towards the young leopard.
“Legadema paused for a moment, apparently not knowing what to do. Then she gently picked it up in her mouth, holding it by the scruff of its neck and carrying the infant up a tree to keep it safe.”

It is venom, a virulent biological toxin that is the weapon of choice for thousands of species. But which one is the most deadly to man? Among the world's venomous creatures there are those whose poisonous reputations are infamous, but there are many less well-known killers out there. Everything from reptiles and mammals to fish may be armed with onboard biological weapons that are one hundred percent natural and, in many cases, deadly. But when it comes to human beings, there's always been a great deal of debate as to which of these creatures presents the greatest threat. It has inspired one man to come up with a pioneering new classification system for ranking the world's most dangerous venoms. Snake Expert, Austin Stevens, features in this pacy, heart-stopping DVD as we follow him on his brave quest to find a
massive King Cobra deep in the forests along the coast of South West India. No other snake grows to the size of the
King Cobra, but they are shy and reclusive moving quietly and leaving no trace. This makes his mission of photographing
one of these massive snakes all the more difficult. Hugging the Arabian Sea, Austin ventures for days off the beaten
track, along the way he finds other species of Cobra including the beautifulbut formidable Spectacled Cobra and makes
it dance by using his hands. However the King of all Snakes remains elusive. Austin travels further North to the remote
forests of Wayanad using Elephants to get him there. Eventually, with Austin near to giving up, it is a shed snakeskin that gives him his breakthrough. Sure enough a twenty year old, fifteen foot King Cobra is not far away and we document incredible footage of Austin handling the deadly beast and even managing to achieve his life long goal of touching a wild King Cobra on the back of its head.

the natural history of the Cobra is linked to its symbolic role in Asian culture. In this programme we take a detailed look at the various species of Cobras and explore the facts and myths surrounding their habitat and behaviour, including their role in traditional ceremonies. We learn how Cobras form their hoods in a sign of warning and how some have the ability to shoot their poison through their fangs. Tales are heard from snake handlers who have been bitten by King Cobras and we unravel the methods used to produce anti-venom. We also look at the secrets behind the ancient art of snake charming and the fact the snake cares little for the tune but responds to the movement of the charmer. Finally, through doing what comes naturally, we see how spectacled Cobras in Sri Lanka have developed friendships with rice farmers by killing the rats which destroy the farmers' crops. With greater understanding perhaps Cobras will be seen as the kings they are.
